ZINE COLLECTIVE
zines (pronounced like the last syllable of 'magazine') have a rich counter-cultural and community-archivist history.
Given the circumstances of the pandemic in the spring/summer of 2021, SEAs RISE operated as a virtual community art-making space. Each weekly session brought together Oakland-based Southeast Asian artists across multiple generations and various mediums. The goal of the Collective was to co-create a community zine that reflected the unique perspectives and stories of the Oakland Southeast Asian community.
